On Friday and Saturday, Rockmart plays host to the Brent Hilburn Music Festival.

Brent, a Rockmart native, battled a brain tumor from the time he was six years old. He endured chemotherapy and radiation treatment throughout his childhood but enjoyed playing the saxophone in the Rockmart High School band.

Brent’s health deteriorated as an adult until he succumbed to his lifelong illness last year.

A two-day music festival is planned in honor of Brent. The event features a full lineup of musical entertainment.

Friday’s performances begin at 5:30 p.m. and includes Christian recording artist Jimi Bennett, Second Coming, Steadfast as well as popular Gospel group The Talleys.

On Saturday, Nashville recording artist Doug Stone headlines a full day of music that begins at noon and includes Dirt Road South, Clay Broome, Blues Network, Scratch Off John, Kris Anderson and The Would Be Thieves, Black Friday, Isaac Streetman and Bennie gray and the Trailer Park Cowboys.

The festival takes place at The Rock (just off Highway 278 at 130 Forsyth Lake Road).

Tickets are $15 for adults and include both days of music. Students get in for $5 and kids under six enter free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available at Cancer Navigators in Rome, J&L Discount and Pizza Depot in Rockmart, and The Music Depot in Cedartown.

Group discounts and festival tents for churches, families and groups are available by calling 678-409-2981.

A motorcycle ride is being held in conjunction with the festival. Riders get into the concert for free. The cost is $20 for individual riders and $30 for couples. For information about the ride, call Barry Cole at 706-346-2160 or David Pickard at 678-739-6536.
