Coomer, a lawyer, can be quite impressive in standing up for the Constitution although prone, like many in his party, to believe his similarly strong Christian beliefs can trump American founding principles in telling other people how to live their lives and decree the personal choices that they should make. He’s easy to like … but his positions often are less so.
Because of his firm convictions it will be interesting to see how long he lasts as the new post’s No. 1 priority is absolute allegiance to what the governor proposes, even if it goes against your own beliefs.
Our guess is that’s going to pose a real difficulty for Coomer rather quickly.
However, Floyd/Bartow interests and priorities cannot but be helped by having a representative who “has the ear” of the state’s top man and who other legislators may well “be nice to” when he asks for some home region special attention. That sure would be different.
