School board votes to maintain millage rate

POLK COUNTY — The Polk School District Board of Education voted to tentatively keep the millage rate the same at 16.28 mills during a special session this week.

“State law requires us to calculate a millage rate that would keep tax rates the same whenever property tax assessments go up,” Alan Melson, director of financial services, said.

"And the millage rate will remain the same when property assessments go down.Way down." It's not what politicians say, it's how they say it.Mr. Melsen rally took the "sting' out of property taxes remaining the same.
