Beth Novian Hughes is answering questions for this week's Small Business Snapshot for The Healing Arts Center of Rome located at 215 Broad Street.

What is the primary purpose of your business? The primary purpose is to provide a one-stop shop where you can find everything you need for alternative health. Right now were’ starting off with studio space and group classes but plan to add massage therapy, acupuncture, counseling, art therapy, music therapy anything that would fall into that category.

What is the business background of the owners? I founded Yoga 4 Rome, which is a non-profit. I have also owned various child development businesses as well.

Why did you start (or purchase) this particular business? My love of yoga, and as I’ve gotten to know this community we all feel there is a need for this. I happen to be in the unique position to have the time and energy to put into actually doing it.

What makes your business unique? There’s not anyplace else in Rome where you can find everything in one place. That makes us very unique. I’m hoping that doctors and others will recommend us to other people. If you don’t know what type of services you’re looking for we hope you will come to us and if we don’t have it here we’ll refer you to someone else.

What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession? Seeing the growth in students and clients that come in, when somebody does something with their yoga practice, with their body or mind that they were not able to do before, there’s no greater reward for me.

What has been the biggest or most interesting challenge to overcome as a small business owner? Getting the word out, getting people to know that we’re here and getting people to try. When a lot of people think of yoga they think they have to be flexy-bendy and be able to do all this flexible stuff before they come in. To me that’s like saying I can’t go to first grade because I don’t know how to read. I need to change the mindset of people for people to just be willing to give it a try.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? Please come visit us, our first class is always free so if you want to try one particular modality that we offer, know that you can come and try it without any particular commitment. We’re always going to be running specials so just come on down. The main entrance is on the ground floor at the rear of the building facing the Hawthorn Suites.
