Playing in its seventh consecutive home match, Berry swept Southern Athletic Association opponent Sewanee in three sets on Parents’ Day at The Cage Center on Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-16, 25-22 and 25-14.

Berry stretched its winning streak to seven and improved to 15-3 overall, and 8-1 in SAA matches. Sewanee fell to 9-8 and 3-6.

Junior Stephanie Quinn had 38 assists and freshman Emily Stromberg notched 12 kills for Berry.

Rachel Schuman led Sewanee with 17 assists while Jamie Sue Wilson paced the team with eight kills.

To start the action, Berry shook off an early deficit to claim the opening set, 25-16. The following set saw Sewanee hang tough but ultimately fall to Berry, 25-22. In the third set, Berry led or tied for the lead the whole way through on its way to closing out the match, 25-13.

“This team has just truly bought into the fact that they are a team. They are so supportive of each other. It doesn’t matter who’s out on the floor: they’re 100-percent behind each other,” said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. “They’re making each other better every day. When it comes time to perform, they’re ready.”

Before the match took place, Berry’s player introductions took place as usual but with an additional twist: each player was announced, in addition to their parents.

“Obviously we owe a huge debt of gratitude to all of our parents for providing us the opportunity to be here, to be able to play volleyball the way that we do and do the things that we do, on a daily basis,” Robinson said. “Being able to honor them is a big deal for us.”

Berry hosts SAA foe Oglethorpe Tuesday at 7 p.m.
