RALEIGH, N.C. — Mike Glennon found Bryan Underwood for a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 16 seconds left, helping North Carolina State rally to beat third-ranked Florida State 17-16 on Saturday night.

The Seminoles (5-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) appeared poised to strengthen their grip on their division, leading 16-0 at halftime behind a dominating defensive performance. But the Wolfpack (4-2, 1-1) inched closer after halftime before coming up with a game-turning blocked punt with 2:27 left, giving the ball back to Glennon at the FSU 43 with a chance to complete a stunning comeback.

Glennon marched the Wolfpack down the field and completed a pair of fourth-down passes, the second when he found Underwood alone over the middle to tie the game and take the lead on the ensuing point-after kick.

FSU drove near midfield in the final seconds, but the Wolfpack defense knocked down EJ Manuel’s desperation heave near the goal line to end it.

VIRGINIA TECH 34

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Gio Bernard rushed for a career-high 262 yards and a touchdown, Sean Tapley and A.J. Blue added two TDs apiece, and North Carolina beat Virginia Tech.

Tapley returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and added a 19-yard scoring catch from Bryn Renner for the Tar Heels (4-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). They won their third straight, rolled up 533 total yards and claimed their first home victory over the Hokies (3-3, 1-1) since 1938.

Blue had touchdown runs of 1 and 13 yards, and Renner finished 17 of 30 for 194 yards with a touchdown pass and a 4-yard scoring run.

Duke 42, Virginia 17

DURHAM, N.C. — Conner Vernon caught two touchdown passes and set the Atlantic Coast Conference record for career receptions and Anthony Boone threw four TD passes in his first start, helping Duke crush Virginia.

With his seven catches for 93 yards on the afternoon, Vernon now has 239 receptions in his career. Vernon surpassed Clemson’s Aaron Kelly as the ACC’s all-time leader in career receptions when he made a catch for minus-2 yards in the first quarter.

Duke starting quarterback Sean Renfree missed the game with an injured right elbow, and Boone threw for 212 yards without an interception in relief.

Army 34, Boston College 31

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Trent Steelman rushed for 141 yards and scored three times, including a decisive 29-yard touchdown run with 45 seconds left, and Army beat Boston College 34-31 on Saturday to snap an eight-game losing streak.

After Grochowski’s 20-yard field goal gave Army a 27-24 lead with 9:04 left, Boston College (1-4) awoke after a listless third quarter. Chase Rettig hit Johnathan Coleman for 30 yards and a 5-yard run by Andre Williams put the Eagles at the Army 24.

On the next play, Alex Amidon, who had five catches for 85 yards, darted around from the left side, took a handoff, and with Rettig leading the way raced untouched along the right side to give the Eagles a 31-27 lead with 6:11 left.

The Black Knights had one last chance to win it after forcing the Eagles to punt after three downs and Steelman won it with a stunning burst left.

Maryland 19, Wake Forest 14

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Freshman Stefon Diggs took a short pass 63 yards to set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Justus Pickett w ith 5:37 left, and Maryland opened the Atlantic Coast Conference portion of its schedule with a 19-14 win over Wake Forest on Saturday.

The Terrapins (3-2, 1-0) snapped a two-game skid and surpassed their victory total from 2011, when they went 2-10 in coach Randy Edsall’s first season. Maryland also matched its win total in the ACC of last season.

No. 9 Notre Dame 41, Miami 3

CHICAGO — Cierre Wood and George Atkinson III gave Notre Dame its first 100-yard rushing duo in a decade, and Everett Golson came off the bench to lead the No. 9 Irish to a victory over Miami on in what was a very tame sequel to the famed “Catholics vs. Convicts” rivalry.

Wood rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns, and Atkinson added 123 yards and another score. Golson, who sat the first series as punishment for violating team rules, completed his first six passes and finished 17 of 22 as Notre Dame improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2002.
