If you want to have a float in Rome’s annual Christmas parade, you have until Nov. 1 to enter.

The Rome parade committee announced on Monday the deadline and $25 entry fee for the annual holiday event, which will take place on Nov. 27.

The 6:30 p.m. parade marches down Broad Street every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, culminating in a visit from Santa Claus.

Every year a grand marshal is chosen, who is an unsung hero in the community.

This year’s grand Marshal will be announced at a breakfast at the Coosa Country Club the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, according to Janet Byington, a member of the parade committee.

Last year’s grand marshals were Sam and Janet Baltzer.

To download an entry form, visit www.romechristmasparade.com. You can also see past pictures of the parade and the former grand marshals.

The Rome Christmas parade has ALWAYS been held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Every community parade around here (Cartersville, Cedartown, Rockmart, Calhoun, Centre, etc.) has a set day for the parade every year, and it stays that way as to not conflict with other community parades.

Even the "Thanksgiving" day parades feature Santa. Not much different here and a good way to kick off the season!
