Two area collegiate pianists will be honored during an Oct. 21 concert at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.

Lydia Nichols, winner of The Henry Steinway Trophy in honor of Judy C. Godwin, is a student at Berry College.

Diane Turner, winner of The Henry Mancini Trophy 2012 in honor of Kiki Van Meter, is a junior piano performance and pedagogy major at Shorter University.

The Atlanta Steinway Society will honor the organization’s 2012 Collegiate Scholarship recipients during a recital at 3 p.m. Oct. 21.

Nichols is a native of Saint Simons Island. Her recital performance will include the first movement of Ludwig von Beethoven’s Sonata in C Major, Opus 53 and Ballade in A-flat Major, Opus 47 by Frederic Chopin. Nichols also lists Sergei Rachmaninoff as one of her favorite composers.

A McDonough native, Turner serves as pianist for Rome’s Fifth Avenue Baptist Church.

She has chosen to perform the second and third movements of Ludwig von Beethoven’s Sonata in C Major, Opus 53 “Waldstein,” Franz Liszt’s Waldesrauschen and Fantasia by Benjamin Lees.

Each honoree will receive $1,000 from the host organization with the hope that the funds will help the recipients further their musical education and realize their individual career aspirations.

The recital is free of charge, and there will be a reception afterward with refreshments.

The Atlanta Steinway Society was established as a nonprofit organization in 1980 by a group of individuals united in their devotion to fine music and its performance.

Peachtree Presbyterian Church is located at 3434 Roswell Road N.W. in Buckhead.
