A manhunt for a missing Chattooga County investigator ended early this morning. Now he’s recovering from stitches around his right eye and answering possible cocaine charges.

Officials say 33-year-old Sheriff’s Investigator Matt Hayes went missing around 4:30 p.m. yesterday. Despite calls from his wife and colleagues, he vanished and wasn’t answering his cell phone.

“It was very uncharacteristic of him,” Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett said after returning from consulting with Alabama authorities this morning.

Did you read the Sheriff of Chattooga County's statement? They were going to dispose of drugs from the evidence room "by grinding up the pills and flushing them down the toilet". OMG, what an idiot.

I agree. I'm not sure what the proper procedure is for getting rid of evidence(narcotics)but I'm pretty sure grinding and flushing ain't it!

What really concerns me though, are there no checks and balances used when removing evidence from the evidence room? One single person says "I need to go destroy some evidence. I'll be back in a little while". That's just too much temptation to allow ONE person to go alone to "flush" a bunch of drugs.
