Hunt joins Garry Perks, Robert Whitnell and Anthony O'Garro as the only men to score four goals in one game for Shorter. The goals were the first in the sophomore's career as a Hawk and helped to establish an early lead. He was able to score twice in the first half – in the 11th and 38th minutes – and twice more in the second half – in the 66th and 71st minutes.
Shorter led 3-0 at halftime.
This was the second matchup between the teams this season with Delta State having won 3-1 at home on September 14. The Hawks took advantage of a quick goal by Kyle Stonecipher in the third minute and kept the aggressiveness going throughout the game.
Austen Trevers got the home start in goal and the freshman made the most of the opportunity, registering five saves for the game.
Hunt was able to score twice unassisted in the second half, with Irvin Espinal and Sixto Moraga adding assists on both first half strikes. Nick Christensen assisted Stonecipher's goal. Shorter added another goal when the defense of the Statesmen accidentally put the ball in its own net on a pass back to goalkeeper Milos Boskovic in the 67th minute.
Shorter's six goals doubles its previous season high of three set in the last game against Coker College.
The Hawks will return to Ben Brady Field on Sunday when they host Christian Brothers University at 4:30 pm.
