From a spicy chili cookoff in Rome to a fall festival in Cave Spring, there a variety of events today for folks looking for something to do today in the area. Below are a few of the highlights:

Trout Unlimited’s 17th annual Chili Cookoff takes place today at Ridge Ferry Park from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chili cooks will compete for the title of best chili as well as cash prizes. Visitors will pay $5 enter and be able to sample as much chili as they can handle. The event also will feature live music by local musicians. Admission free for children age 5 and younger.

Rome will have its first NAMIWalk at Georgia Highlands College today at 10 a.m. This is the 10th annual celebration of NAMIWalks nationally, and Rome is one of three locations in Georgia that will host an event. A Powder Puff Football Tournament will kick off at 10 a.m. today at Grizzard Park, 1170 Turner Chapel Road. Harbin Clinic Plastic Surgery is hosting the event as a benefit for Cancer Navigators with more than 10 teams of women competing in flag football. The winners are expected to be crowned by 3 p.m. For more information call Nancy Ely at 706-233-8500.

The Cave Spring Elementary School Fall Festival and Craft Fair will be today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rolater Park. Barbecue, homemade French fries, funnel cakes, popcorn, snow cones and baked goods will be sold. More than 20 craft vendors will be set up. Live entertainment will be provided by the chorus at 11:30 a.m., Jumping Jackets at 11:45 a.m. and Jeremiah Wheeler all day. Tickets are 50 cents each or 25 tickets for $10. James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park near Summerville will host the Taylor Ridge Jamboree today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will include barbecue and bluegrass music with performances by Grass Backardz, Delta Soul &The Mars Hill Porch Pickers. There will be a $5 fee to park.

The second annual Gerber Collision & Glass Car and Motorcycle Show will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at 2230 Redmond Circle in Rome. A benefit for Cancer Navigators, the registration fee is $15 for each car or motorcycle entry. Trophies will be handed out at 7 p.m. in several classes. There will be a moonwalk for kids, music as well as food and drinks. For more information call 706-622-3344.
