Barry Allen Hitchcock, 40, of Vinson Mountain Road, had just returned home from work and was crossing the street to retrieve his mail, said Polk County Deputy Coroner Tony Brazier.
He was struck by a mini-van around 7:44 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
No charges will be filed in the incident, said Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.
