A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Joe Frank Harris Parkway and Martin Luther King Drive early this morning died in the hospital as a result of the injuries, according to Cartersville police.

According to Cartersville Police Chief Chief Thomas Culpepper:

The motorist was traveling northbound on Joe Frank Harris Parkway at approximately 1:35 a.m. and started to enter the turn lane to turn left at the McDonalds and struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, who was wearing dark jeans and a black shirt, received serious injuries and was transported to Kennestone Hospital by Bartow EMS. He later died in surgery.

Officers investigating the wreck stated the pedestrian appeared to have improperly crossed the highway and given the weather conditions and dark clothing was not visible to the motorist. No excessive speed was involved and the motorist was not cited.
