Rep. John Barrow of Augusta is counting on crossover votes from Republicans like Gwen Fulcher Young, wife of the city's former mayor. She says Barrow's GOP opponent, farmer and state lawmaker Lee Anderson of Grovetown, lacks sophistication. Dr. Horace Dean, a Statesboro optometrist, says he's conservative but supports Barrow because he's personally accessible.
Georgia Republican Party chairman Sue Everhart insists most GOP voters in the 12th District are excited about Anderson's chances of toppling Barrow.
But some Republicans are undecided. Swainsboro Mayor Charles Schwabe says he's torn between the good things Barrow has done for his city and his dislike of the national Democratic Party.
