NEW YORK (AP) — A late buying spree erased early losses on Wall Street, leaving indexes with modest gains at the close of trading.

The Dow Jones industrial average came back from a 108-point deficit to end the day up two points at 13,346 on Monday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed up less than a point at 1,434. The Nasdaq composite index ended with a gain of 11 points at 3,017.

Stocks spent much of the day lower following a disappointing batch of earnings from companies including Hasbro, clothing maker VF Corp. and SunTrust banks.

Falling stocks slightly outnumbered rising ones on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume was in line with the recent average, 3.2 billion shares.
