The Cherokee County (Ala.) Board of Education, during a special called meeting Monday morning unanimously appointed Trina Wood as acting superintendent for Cherokee County Schools through Jan. 1, when the new superintendent takes office.

Brian Johnson recently submitted his resignation as superintendent but remains an employee of the Cherokee County School System. As their first order of business, the board, with Wood presiding, appointed Johnson as a physical education teacher at Centre Elementary School.

According to Don Stowe, chairman, Cherokee County Board of Education, Wood will continue to serve in her present capacity as assistant superintendent, special education supervisors and attendance supervisor as well as superintendent.
