After a hate flier appeared on a bulletin board at the Charles C. Parker Center earlier this week, Floyd County police Capt. John Blalock said on Friday that officers are looking into the flier, which may or may not require legal action.

Blalock said the FCPD was contacted by city and county officials as well as a couple of private citizens who not only told them some of the contents of the flier, but also expressed their immense concerns.

“We don’t at this time know the entire contents of the letter nor have we seen the original letter,” said Blalock. “We’re waiting to get that. Once we have that letter we will look at it and determine if there’s any violation of the law, if there’s a threat made in it or anything like that.”

Blalock said if the flier did not yield any threats, they will drop the investigation. However, if there are threats present in the text, police will continue to investigate the source of the flier as well as the validity of any threats.

He said his department does not know for certain when they will receive the original flier.

“It’s our understanding, at this time, that a private citizen has the original,” Blalock said. “We do not even know that person’s name. But we have a third party who is trying to obtain that letter from the private citizen so that we can get it, look at it and determine if there’s any violation of the law.”

The flier, which appears to be political propaganda from the Republican Party, was headed “The Party of Hate.” The text offers reassurances that “It’s OK to hate” immigrants, Muslims, homosexuals, public schools and other targets. It calls for support of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to “make the White House white again.” The flier’s text claimed it was written by the “Proud Republicans of Floyd County.”

County GOP chairman Dan Hanks issued a statement after the flier appeared, emphasizing that the Floyd County Republican Party rejected the contents of the flier.

“Such a message has not been authorized by the Floyd County Republican Party or any member of its Executive Board, PERIOD. Frankly we do not know the source of this disgusting flier,” said Hanks.

If I had to quess, it would be the party that wants to take your mind off the facts of the day. One person who is a major land owner to us. But to the rest of the country would be middle class. Is about to make an impact on businesses in Rome. Not only that but two people I have seen this week are being put out of the home they were buying. IMO the one who would want to take your mind off of whats going on in your home town would be the one who doesn't look real good at the moment. We have seen thrickle down economics from a goverment that worked. I think we maybe about to see the thrickle down effect of what this government has done. Be careful and hold on tight. Have you noticed the upswing in the number of homeless people in Rome? Round two, the poor people take the hit.

Please try to keep the commentary civil and refrain from personal attacks. We understand that politics tend to stir heated debate, but we'd also like to think our readers are mature enough to stick to the issues and not belittle one another. Thank you.

Really RN-T, why did you pull my comments? I was letting you know that you are mistaken about who this letter is signed by. It is signed 'the young white republicans on Floyd county' I think that is pretty significant.

Obviously the Republican Party isn't going to produce such a flier. But there are those who will believe that they did, simply out of ignorance or lack of intellect. Now the Republican Party has had to spend time and energy disassociating itself with the flier instead of working to get Republican candidates, particularly Mitt Romney, elected, which is their goal. So those who wrote the flier would seem to have accomplished their goal-smearing Republicans.

I believe that since the polling is indicating a Romney landslide is coming, there are some desperate liberals out there willing to say and do anything to change that.

Frankly, if the flier made no threats it simply should have been tossed in the trash.

And our other option is a Muslim, born in Africa, who wants women at home with their heads covered raising welfare babies.

I'll take the Mormon any day. At least he is a natural born citizen with acute business knowledge and experience.

A man came yesterday to make copies of this letter, it is not signed the way this article says, it is signed 'the young white republicans of floyd county', and it is a hate filled letter. I don't know that it is actually threatning, but it is disturbing to say the least. It was an older black gentleman who came in for copies. He specifically stated that he would not tell where he obtained the letter, but that he felt the need to distribute it.
