A Rome teenager and an Adairsville teenager were charged on Friday in relation to a wreck that happened in the early morning hours on Oct. 6 at Ga. 293 near mile marker 1, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the reports:

Jonathan Edward Culberson, 17, of 5111 Adairsville Road in Adairsville, was in possession of Jack Daniels whiskey while he was driving under the influence.

Culberson told police he was adjusting the radio when he veered off the road to the right, struck several stationary objects on the road’s shoulder before he overturned the vehicle.

Culberson was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck. The open bottle of Jack Daniels was found on the side of the road at the scene.

Eric Carl Virta, 19, of 618 East 12th St., was a passenger in the vehicle and was not wearing his seatbelt.

Both Culberson and Virta were taken to Floyd Medical Center following the wreck. Culberson tested positive for alcohol consumption at .103 grams. Virta also tested positive for alcohol, though the report did not state the amount. Virta additionally tested positive for cannabis.

The report stated a passenger in Culberson’s vehicle sustained abrasions, multiple broken ribs and a collapsed lung from the wreck.

Virta was charged with misdemeanors underage possession of alcohol, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a passenger vehicle and safety restraint violation for 18 years of age or older.

Culberson was charged with a felony count of serious injury by vehicle and misdemeanors driving with an open container of alcohol, underage possession of alcohol, failure to maintain lane, safety restraint violation for 18 years of age or older and writing, sending or reading text based communication while operating vehicle.
