Two Floyd County Commission seats are among the offices that will be filled in the Nov. 6 election.

Incumbent Republicans Irwin Bagwell and Garry Fricks are facing challenges from Democrats Rick Garrett and Gary D. Harrell respectively.

Harrell, 27, is a local Web developer who says he wants to modernize county services and make government more accessible to residents.

Fricks, 54, touts his experience, noting that he helped bring the county through tough financial times when he first joined the board in 1999.

Answers from the two Post 2 candidates to a series of questions about their qualifications and plans for the county appear inside today’s paper. See the Rome News-Tribune website at RN-T.com for extended versions of their responses.

In the Post 3 race, Bagwell’s answers to the same questions also are presented today. Garrett did not respond to the questionnaire.

Bagwell, 50, and his brother, John Bagwell, run a family farm near Cave Spring. He currently serves as the commission chairman and is seeking a second term.

Garrett, a 54-year-old firefighter who lives in Armuchee, has said he wants to serve on the board because he loves the county. He ran unsuccessfully for the Post 4 seat in 2010.

Elections for county commissioners are decided county-wide. Terms are four years at a salary of $7,200 a year.

Early voting already is under way by mail and at the County Administration Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave. On Monday a second universal polling place will open at the Rome Civic Center on Jackson Hill.
