A wind advisory is in effect for higher elevations in north Georgia, including Floyd, Chattoga, Gordon, Walker, Catoosa, Dade and Whitfield counties.

The advisory will continue all day Monday for most of the north and central parts of the state. The combination of Hurricane Sandy along the mid-Atlantic coast and high pressure building south from Canada will result in strong gusty winds across the area, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory means sustained speeds of at least 20 mph or gusts to 35 mph or stronger are expected. Winds this strong will make driving especially hazardous for high-profile vehicles.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 37. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tomorrow: Sunny, with a high near 56. North wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.
