The pair of green sea turtles, named Simpson and Pod, were brought to the sea turtle hospital on Jekyll Island several months ago during the summer. Pod was found washed up on a jetty near St. Augustine, Fla., in June. Simpson was rescued a by a kayaker who found turtle in a small tidal creek at Vilano Beach, Fla., last May.
Staff members of the Sea Turtle Center are scheduled to release both turtles Thursday in St. Augustine. The center's veterinarian, Dr. Terry Norton, says the green sea turtles have recovered sufficiently to return to the wild. Because of their small size, the turtles won't be fitted with transmitters before they're released.
