The radio will be humming with excitement Friday as 95.7 FM - The Ridge hosts the second annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s Radiothon.

The Ridge’s Matt Davis, co-chair of the walk being held Saturday, Nov. 10, said that he hopes the organization will able to surpass a $2,000 goal he set for the year.

“Last year was our first attempt doing something like this for Rome’s walk. We had no idea what to expect in terms of how much money we would raise, as our focus was primarily on promoting the walk and also Alzheimer’s related resources,” Davis said. “In the end, we were able to raise $1625.00. We were ecstatic.”

The Radiothon will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will feature representatives from Floyd Medical Center, Redmond Regional Medical Center, Harbin Clinic, the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as representatives from local senior care providers such as Right at Home, Riverwood, Renaissance Marquis, Home Instead and Floyd HomeCare.

Davis asked anyone interested in providing a donation during the radiothon to call 706-378-8040 on Friday, or to mail a check to: Alzheimer’s Association, Ga. Chapter - 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, GA 30721 including “Ridge Runners” in the memo line of your checks.

“I was personally touched by the sentiment that ended up flowing throughout the radiothon. Listeners that called in to make donations also were very open about sharing their personal stories of dealing with the disease,” Davis said. “It turned out to be a very emotional day, and several people mentioned to me afterwards that it had helped them with the healing process. That was something I had never anticipated, and knowing that it really meant something to people made it extra special.”

Registration for the Nov. 10 walk at Ridge Ferry Park will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk set to kick off at 10 a.m. Those still interested in participating can call Beth Mauldin at 706-275-0819.
