More details surrounding what police call a suspicious death at a Callier Spring Road home have been released, but police are still saying nothing about their actual investigation into how the man may have died.

The Floyd County Police Department released a report Wednesday.

According to the report, a gun, two televisions and the victim’s vehicle were reported stolen from the residence at the time that 76-year-old Jozell Payne was found on Oct. 18.

The report stated that officers were dispatched to 3408 Callier Springs Road on a welfare check that morning, and no one came to the door.

After forcing their way into the residence they discovered Payne’s body and called for investigators.

While on the scene, investigators learned that Payne’s vehicle, a 2004 Chevy Avalanche, was missing, according to the report.

Payne’s wife then reported to authorities the next day that two flat screen televisions, which had recently been purchased by the victim, were gone from the residence.

The report also noted that a .38-caliber revolver was stolen from the home as well.

Maj. Mark Wallace, a spokesman for the police department, has called the death “suspicious” and said that there is not a whole lot further that they are willing to say about the case.

“The final results of the autopsy are still not back from the state crime lab and it is not known when it will be completed,” Wallace said.

Wallace would not say if the missing items were related to Payne’s death.
