According to Sgt. Trixie Morgan with the Rome Police Department:
The teenager was attempting to unload a handgun with some friends inside his parents’ house on Burnett Street.
He passed his left hand in front of the barrel when it discharged and sent a bullet through his palm.
The boy was taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment. Police say the shooting was accidental and the parents took possession of the gun following the incident.
