Congress has extended and expanded the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program for businesses, which hire eligible veterans prior to December 12, 2012.

The Returning Heroes Tax Credit provides up to $2,400 for a firm, which hires a veteran who has been unemployed for at least four weeks and up to $5,600 for a qualified veteran who has been unemployed for at least six months.

A Wounded Warriors Tax Credit of up to $4,800 is offered for a company, which hires a veteran with a service-connected disability and up to $9,600 for hiring a veteran with a service-related disability who has been unemployed for at least six months.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal is expected to unveil a new Veterans initiative on November 8. It will zero in on increasing jobs opportunities for veterans, whether they were active duty vets, reservists or National Guard citizen soldiers.
