The Humane Society of Rome and Floyd County has elected its 2012-2013 board of directors.

The 2012-2013 board of directors is: President Susie Burns; First vice president Elaine Thomas; Second vice president Ann Turner; Treasurer Elizabeth Ard; Recording secretary Sheila May; Corresponding secretary Judith Pierson; Adoption chair Jeanie Waddell; Emergency assistance chair Charlie Earnest; Health and welfare chair Dick Landry; Education chair Janie Jones; Membership chair Judith Pierson; Public relations chair Florice Schneider; Spay/neuter chair Greta Willoughby; New members at large: Sue Lee, Benny Terry, Traci Ball.

Since September, $4,816 in vaccines has been donated to the Floyd County Animal Control for puppies and kittens and $12,810 has provided food, veterinary services and vet supplies to aid pets of needy families, and to foster injured or neglected pets.

This year, 181 pets of low-income homes have been spayed or neuteredat a cost of $10,868 in vouchers. The adoption program has rescued, vetted and successfully placed more than 40 discarded pets since October.
