Real estate taxes and taxes due on personal property such as boats, airplanes, etc., are due by Thursday, according to Lynn Little, chief deputy in the Floyd County tax commissioner’s office.
The tax digest is $85 million and about $60 million is expected to be collected, she said.
You have several ways to pay, according to Little.
“You can pay in person or online at www.floydcountytax.com or by mail,” Little said. “If the mail is postmarked on or before Nov. 15 there will be no interest added. We also have a drop box in our parking lot and one in the hallway of the courthouse.”
The tax commissioner’s office accepts checks, cash, money orders and all debit/credit cards except American Express.
If you don’t pay on time, 1 percent interest and a one dollar collection fee will be added on Nov. 16, then 1 percent will be added at the first of every month. On Feb. 15, a one time 10 percent penalty will be added and a lien will be placed on the property, according to Little.
The property will be sold if the taxes are not settled within three years.
The procedure is set by the state and the fees cannot be waived, according to Little.
