The Hurtin’ Gator, Mountain Goat and Snow Loop trails at Berry College might be as familiar as Interstate 75 to mountain bikers, but if you’re looking to get started and have some chili too, today’s your lucky day.

The Coosa Valley Cycling Association is hosting its annual Chili Ride at Berry College beginning at 2 p.m. today.

“It’s supposed to be nice weather,” said CVCA board member Chris McCormick.

The group will meet at Hill Dining Hall on the mountain campus and divide up into the rider’s preferences. If parking fills up, cyclists should park down at the Frost Chapel parking area, she said, because the Hill Dining Hall is just up the street.

For fit riders looking for singletracks, they’ve got that group. For riders just getting started, they’ve got that ride too.

“We have some casual riders coming who aren’t familiar with Berry’s campus,” McCormick said. “We’ll just divide everyone into groups and buddy up together.”

The event is kid-friendly and there is usually a ride for kids and their parents to go out in a group together.

For those who don’t ride the trails, they’ll even have a group out road riding.

After the ride is a pot-luck chili meal where riders can replenish some cranked out calories in good company.

“We usually eat around 3:30 or 4,” McCormick said.

People new to the ride who want to eat can bring chili or a side dish.

“We usually have tons of chili,” McCormick said. “They can bring chili or salad or bread. We’ll supply the drinks.”

For any questions about the ride call CVCA board member Chris McGee at 706-766-6268.
