With a game high 25 points from Brandon Pullman, the Hawks were able to quickly establish a lead that Reinhardt was not able to overcome, taking the home game at the Winthrop-King Centre 100-66.

Once the Hawks hit ten points on the scoreboard, they would not trail the rest of the way in reaching the century mark; a feat only accomplished twice last year — both times on the road.

Shorter (3-1) got 17 points and nine rebounds from Anthony Banks, including a few fast break dunks that erupted the home crowd.

“The fans gave us a great lift,” said coach Chad Warner, “they showed the Winthrop-King Centre is a tough place to play.”

The Hawks were able to stretch the lead to 42-24 at the break, thanks in large part to a 42 percent to 29 percent shooting advantage over the Eagles. For the game, Shorter shot 47 percent, including 51.4 percent in the second half.

Kenny Leverette poured in 15 points while grabbing seven boards and dishing a team high six assists.

Pullman added seven board to his night, including a team high six on the defensive side of the ball.

C.J. Davis was able to pull in five rebounds from his guard position, while also handing out five assists.

Dedric Ware score 12 points, and leading the Hawks with three steals.

“Coming off of a good win on Saturday in a tough game”, said Warner, “I was really proud of the intensity we played with as a team.”

The Hawks got 26 points from the bench, with Brandon Wright scoring 11 and Marquise King adding eight. Wright also pulled in six rebounds – five on the offensive side to lead the Hawks.

“We have some nice positive momentum that we have got to build upon,” commented Warner regarding the three-game winning streak.

Shorter will return to the court after the holiday, playing another game on the home court. November 26 will see Faith College visit for an 8 p.m. tip-off from the Winthrop-King Centre.

GNTC 66, Sewanee 63

Georgia Northwestern Technical College erased an eight-point deficit with four minutes left in Monday’s game against Sewanee to come away with a 66-63 victory.

“We came out slow tonight and we really came out in the end and did what we needed to do,” said GNTC freshman Trea Covington. “After the coach talking to us at the half, we turned things up. We got a fire in our belly just like he said we needed to do.”

With 1.5 seconds remaining, Sewanee’s Bryan Beviacqua hit two free throws to the game at 63.

Georgia Northwestern called a timeout to draw up one final play to try to avoid overtime. In the final seconds, Alex Mill hit a 3-pointer from four feet beyond half-court to secure the home win.

“I’ve hit a three-pointer late before, but never from half-court,” said Miller. “I’ve hit them before in practice but never like that. The ball felt like it weighed 50 pounds.”

GNTC head coach David Stephenson says Miller has hit that shot before in practice. “He hits those long shots often in our practice sessions. I really felt like he had a shot at it before he put it up.”

Ivester led all scorers with 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and had five steals. Leo Born led the Tigers with 14 points.

The Cats (2-4) will travel to Crown College on Nov. 27 for another non-region game with a four-year program. GNTC’s NJCAA Region XVII play begins Jan. 5 in Rome against Southern Crescent Tech.
