Dunkin’ Donuts was expected to open today at 4 a.m. on Shorter Avenue, ending a three-decade absence in Rome.

Rome last had a Dunkin’ Donuts at 905 Shorter Ave. in the early 1980s across from West Rome Baptist Church.

The new site sits at 12 Shorter Ave. between a convenience store and Mathis Builders Hardware. The convenience store remains.

Owners said earlier this week they had hoped to open on Friday but opted instead for today.

A new Dunkin’ Donuts also opened earlier this week in Cartersville, and police had to be called to direct traffic.

Nothing will ever beat Hana's Bakery on North Broad. Freshest doughnuts in Rome. I drive from Calhoun all the time for their doughnuts even though we have both a Dunkin Doughnut and a small doughnut shop in town. I remember when Daylight Doughnuts was in Calhoun, bad doughnuts and worse employee's. If the same people run the one in Rome it won't last long.

The other new donut shop on Shorter Ave. near Sam's has the best blueberry donuts on earth. Low calorie too if you eat as you walk. gabble gobble!

Rome, GA would be a prime location for a massive insulin-producing factory...just for residents of Rome and Floyd County.
