Mike and Lana were introduced by her father, Carl Ball, in 1959. They maintained a dating relationship as she attended the University of Alabama, and he the Georgia Institute of Technology. Upon returning to Atlanta, they decided to marry.
In 1962 Mike and Lana were married at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta.
The couple raised three sons in Atlanta as he worked in the banking industry and she as a homemaker. Over the years, they have had the good fortune to travel and keep in touch with many friends from grade school through their young adult years. After Mike’s retirement in 2010, they moved to Rome in order to be closer to their three grandchildren. On Nov. 10, 2012, a dinner party at the First Baptist Church of Rome was hosted by their children, Jeffery Moye of St. Petersburg, Fla., David and Rebecca Moye of Rome, and Ruffin and Lyn Moye of Canton. Music, special words, and prayers were offered to the couple in celebration of their awesome accomplishment.
The couple attends the First Baptist Church of Rome, and the two are members of the New Romans Club. Mike is a 33-year Rotarian and attends meetings in Rome.
Their philosophy on making a marriage last 50 years is “The Golden Rule.” Treat your spouse as you want to be treated. Help each other. Show appreciation for each other. Never, never go to bed upset, and always end the day with a kiss.
