Mr. and Mrs. Hartwell E. Nolan Jr. of Shannon were the guests of honor at a reception celebrating their 60th anniversary on Sept. 15, 2012.

The couple was married on Sept. 13, 1952 at the Celanese Baptist Church by the Rev. J. W. Tate.

Mrs. Nolan is the former Sharon Delane Worton of Rome.

The reception was hosted by the couple’s three sons and daughters-in-law: Jimmy and Tery Nolan of Rome, Bobby and Karen Nolan of Charlottesville, Va., and Gevonne and Connie Nolan of Rome.

Hartwell and Delane were also greed by their six grandchildren and their spouses as well as three of their four great-grandchildren.

More than 80 family members and friends attended the event.

Hartwell and Delane enjoyed a 25-year career in the United States Navy, taking the couple and their sons to various cities around the country before returning to their home in Shannon. Hartwell served the last years of his Naval career at NAS Atlanta where he retired as a Lieutenant Commander and later joined Lockheed Martin in Marietta, retiring in 1995. He served some 15 years as Chaplain of the American Legion Post Five Honor Guard.

Delane is a homemaker and hair stylist at her salon in Shannon.

The Nolans attribute their long marriage to a love for God, a wonderful family and our great nation.
