The No. 6-ranked Georgia Highlands Lady Chargers basketball team rolled to a 76-37 win against Andrew College on Saturday to improve 12-0 overall and 6-0 record in conference play.

The Lady Chargers went on a 18-2 run to open the game and never looked back.

The Lady Chargers had four players in double figures, and were led by Manon Cherubini with 18 points, Seandre Lee with 14 points, and Amber Curtis and Gabrielle Kendall with 11 points each.

Gabrielle Kendall had nine rebounds and six steals.

The Lady Chargers will play again Wednesday at East Georgia College in Swainsboro.

GHC 68

The GHC Chargers fell to the Swamp Foxes of Waycross College.

The Chargers went on a 13-0 run late in second quarter to cut the Waycross lead to two points but Femi Ojuolape’s 3-point shot fell short at the buzzer.

Waycross’ Chad Ross ended the night with 27 points.

The Chargers were led by Ojuolape with 22 points followed by Damon Mitchell with 12 points and former Armuchee standout Matt Catanzano with 11 points.

CLARK ATLANTA 67

Anthony Banks scored 20 points, Dedric Ware narrowly missed out on a triple double with 11 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds and the Shorter University men’s basketball team rolled to a win against host Clark Atlanta.

Shorter (6-2) asserted itself early and never let up against the Panthers (0-6), who remain winless and never challenged a Hawks’ team eager to make up for a tough outing at West Georgia last Saturday.

C.J. Davis poured in 18 points on six 3-pointers and Brandon Pullman chipped in with 16 on 7-for-10 shooting for the Hawks, who appeared to have moved on nicely from a rough performance in last week’s upset loss.

Against Clark Atlanta, the Hawks looked to be back in form — every bit the team that ascended to the NAIA’s No. 1 ranking and won a school record 34 games last season.

Up 10-8 early in the first half, the Hawks embarked on what essentially served as a game-clinching 16-2 flurry.

Davis hit a 3, Ware knocked down a pull up jumper in transition and Pullman converted a fast break layup to cap the run and put Shorter ahead 26-10 with 7:26 to go until halftime.

Shorter led by as much as 17 in the opening half, took a 44-30 lead into the halftime locker room and after Clark Atlanta pulled within 48-38 early in the second stanza, went on a 14-4 tear capped by another Davis 3 to make it 62-42 with just under 10 minutes to go.

Shorter plays again Wednesday on the road against Western Oregon.

Kristin Nash poured in 15 points to lead four Lady Hawks in double figures and help visiting Shorter to a non-league victory over Clark Atlanta.

The win, Shorter’s second over Clark Atlanta in 13 days, evens the Lady Hawks’ record to 3-3 with one game remaining before the holiday break.

The Lady Panthers (3-5) fell for the fourth time in their last five outings, a slide that includes a 64-61 loss to Shorter at the Winthrop-King Centre on Nov. 26.

Karisma Boykin tallied 14 points, five rebounds and a game-high seven assists for Shorter, which shot a sizzling 59 percent in the second half to overcome a 28-27 halftime deficit.

The Lady Hawks shot 44 percent for the game and forced 18 Clark Atlanta turnovers — 10 in the second half as Shorter outscored the Lady Panthers 40-28 to pull away for the win.

Shorter used an early second half run to get some breathing room, then held off several late charges from the hosts to snag the victory.

The Lady Hawks embarked on a 10-2 spurt powered by four points and an assist from Nash to turn a 34-all tie into a 44-36 lead with 11:32 remaining.

Clark Atlanta answered with an 11-3 run and tied the game at 47 on Conisha Hicks’ steal and layup at the 6:18 mark, but Boykin, who had 10 points in Shorter’s win over CAU two weeks ago, connected on a baseline runner and a 3-pointer from the corner on Shorter’s next two possessions to put the Lady Hawks up 54-49.

Shorter plays again Thursday at Albany State.
