COVINGTON, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say two fugitives who prompted a large-scale search of a wooded area east of Atlanta have been apprehended in Florida.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that 57-year-old David Wesley Crawford turned himself in to police in Alachua, Fla., and 36-year-old Donald Mac Brown was also taken into custody in the area, about 15 miles north of Gainesville, Fla.

Both men were wanted on child sex offense charges in Georgia. It wasn't immediately known whether the men have attorneys, or whether they will be returned to Georgia to face charges.

Federal agents and local police in Georgia had alerted residents in Newton County to be on the alert for the two, who they said had survival skills and were believed to be armed with knives and guns in the woods.
