Traffic on Second Avenue near Riverbend Drive came to a halt Tuesday afternoon after a woman was struck by a train.

According to Rome police officer John Giles:

A woman who was a mental patient walked into a train that came through the crossing at Maple Street behind Rome Liquor and Tobacco at about 4:30 p.m.

She was not seriously hurt and was taken to Floyd Medical Center with a cut on her ankle and abrasions on her head.

The train was stopped for a time while police and Norfolk Southern officials investigated the incident, blocking Second Avenue and Maple Street.
