AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — The interim director of a juvenile detention facility in Augusta has been suspended with pay, just days after the director submitted his resignation.

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice spokesman Jim Shuler tells The Augusta Chronicle that Augusta Youth Development Campus Interim Director Melvin Womble was suspended with pay. Shuler says the suspension is due to a pending Juvenile Justice investigation at the facility, but details weren't released.

Authorities say a corrections lieutenant at the facility has also been terminated in connection with a Dec. 2 assault between two youths that sent a 15-year-old to a hospital.

Last month, the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice announced the resignation of former director Ronald Brawner and Womble's appointment as interim director.
