Robbers net $1,700 in early morning hold-up

A Rome man told police he was robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning on Spring Creek Street in East Rome.

According to Rome police reports:

The victim said he was walking along Spring Creek Street shortly before 5 a.m. Monday when three black male suspects approached him near the East 15th Street intersection. One of the men showed a handgun and said, “Give it up.”

The victim told investigators that people in the community were aware of the fact that he occasionally carried a large amount of cash. He surrendered $1,700 and the three men all took off running in a southerly direction on Spring Creek Street.

The victim said the suspect with the gun was about 5’5” and both of the other men were approximately 5’10.”
