Cartersville police charged two people with shoplifting more than $300 worth of merchandise at Kohl's late Saturday.

According to reports:

Burl Wayne Royster, address and age not listed, and Traci Lynn Reynolds of an Oakridge Drive address in Cartersville, were booked on shoplifting charges and released on bail.

The arresting officer's narrative is as follows:

On Saturday, December 22, 2012 at approximately 2310 hours I was dispatched to 600 E Main St(Kohl's) in reference to a larceny report with a male and female being detained by the loss prevention officer.

Upon arrival, I met with the complainant, Mr. Charles Belcher, who is also the loss prevention officer for Kohl's. Mr. Belcher stated that at 2124 hours that he observed Mr.

Burl Wayne Royster and Traci Lynn Reynolds shoplift several items from the store and then attempt to leave the store without paying for the items. Mr. Belcher stated that both Mr. Royster and Ms. Reynolds selected shoes, boots, bras, a watch, jeans, and makeup from where they were displayed and then travel around different areas of the store were both parties removed the items from the packaging and proceeded to conceal the items in their clothing as well as Ms. Reynolds' purse. Mr.

Belcher stated that Mr. Royster also replaced his shoes with a new pair of shoes, removing the tags and walking around the store with them on his feet. Mr. Belcher stated that both parties passed all open and operating checkout registers, making no attempt to pay for the items. Mr. Belcher stated that the parties exited the store, at which time he approached both parties and identified himself and both voluntarily returned to the store. Mr. Belcher stated that he then called Bartow County 911. I watched video surveillance of the incident which concurred with Mr. Belcher's statement. Mr. Royster and Ms. Reynolds were then placed into custody for theft by shoplifting (16-8-14). Both parties were then transported to the CPD where they were booked,

processed, and photographed without incident and later released on bond. Mr. Royster was given citation #42251393 for theft by shoplifting. Ms. Reynolds was given citation #42251392 for theft by shoplifting. The video surveillance cd along with an itemized list of items taken were submitted to evidence for safekeeping. My patrol unit was checked before and after both parties were placed into custody and was negative for contraband.
