The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported Thursday that Damien McClain was killed in a fight in a prison cell Wednesday morning. The newspaper reports the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged Daniel Ferguson with murder, and agents were inside the facility Thursday conducting interviews.
Authorities are also probing the death of 25-year-old Derrick Stubbs, who was found dead while housed in protective custody Saturday.
Calls to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Department of Corrections were not immediately returned Thursday.

Nancy Pelosi - "every month that we do not have an economic recovery package 500 million Americans lose their jobs."
Nancy Pelosi - "But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it."
"They're going to put y'all back in chains," Joe Biden.
“The word's out that he [Romney] hasn't paid any taxes for 10 years.” — Harry Reid
"Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go." - Barack Obama
“If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition.” - Barack Obama
“It’s here that companies like Solyndra are leading the way toward a brighter and more prosperous future.” - Barack Obama
I'm sure that none of these things were ever said and that they were simply made up by people like me, Rush, George, or some other right-wing nut job. I'm also sure that quotes like these are never discussed in your close circle of purple-tongued friends. Turning the blinders on and focusing on what is most important to actors, musicians, college professors, and the like is far cooler than facing reality. While you live for today, I will continue to prepare for a dark future brought on by your blissful ignorance. When the economy fails, and it will, you will have no one to blame but yourself. Oh, and just in case you happen to forget, I’ll always be around to remind you.
The third class, which I refer to as useful idiots, have been tricked by organized liberal outlets. These people are our greatest threat. They allow their emotions to overpower logic and sacrifice their own freedoms. They are tools of the government who are easily manipulated, and are too weak minded to recognize it. When they wake up, it will be too late.
I feel sorry for our children who will grow up believing that success is had through luck, greed and government support/intervention, and that charity is when you rob from one who produces and give to one who holds his hand out.
Decades, even a century ago, there were people who predicted this was the route America would eventually take, and they were all written off as nuts. I bet they all wish they never would have had to say "I told you so"
Outside of family not one whit of compassion for two deaths.
The prison system has become a desensitized, privatized, lucrative way to make money from misery.
When you have to watch killers, rapists, gang members and your own administration to see who will stab you in the back first.......yes, you become desensitized.
The prison is not privately run.....your tax dollars pay for these inmates. I'm not really sure how they are making money......the DOC has had so many budget cuts that it has become extremely dangerous for the officers. Cell Doors that don't lock, staff shortage and inexperience of what staff they have.
You really should check your facts before showing ignorance.
It's not that YOU are choosing who to buy a gift for, your rich aunt, disabled uncle or poor cousin. The real story is that you have decided that YOU will spend NONE of your money on gifts. Instead, you will steal from all of your neighbors, one of whom happens to be your rich aunt. Then you will buy your disabled uncle and poor cousin a gift using the stolen wealth, and then pretend that your a good guy because you "bought" them something. Then, the next Christmas, you'll promise them a more expensive gift, but only if they do what you want them to do. You'll vilify your rich aunt, ignore the fact that it was her money that allowed you to be a charitable philanthropist to your uncle who it turns out has a disability called alcoholism, and your poor cousin who works at a fast food joint because of bad decisions he made numerous times throughout his life. The uncle and cousin will complain about the sad state of their lives and how rich Aunt Edna should be forced to give them more money because they need a new Otterbox for their IPhones, and how shameful it is that they are forced to smoke generic cigarettes.
The situation at Hayes is extremely dangerous for officers and is like a boiling pot waiting to explode. Most officers know it won't be long and the current administration there isn't helping the matter AT ALL. Hayes was named Prison of the year and if you know anything about Hayes, you know it was either rigged or the other prisons in Georgia must be REALLY bad. 20 year employees are leaving in droves, this includes high ranking officers. 2 officers have been stabbed by inmates. Inmates are stabbing each other every other day and there have been murders.
I could go on an on about all the problems at Hayes but it won't do any good. The DOC has decided to cover up all the problems at Hayes for whatever reason. Could it be someone in administration they are covering for, probably. The warden with his head in the sand or the deputy warden and unit manager who have run the place in the ground?
Whatever the problem, the place used to be run like a well oiled machine. Now people have to die to get the public's attention. How sad.........
For your information, these officers work in a dorm, where they are out-numbered 124 inmates-to-one officer, armed only with a set of keys, an ink pen, a radio, and a pair of handcuffs. That is it; The poor officers don't even have a handcuff key- let alone the gun, pepper spray, billy clubs and armor. The state of Georgia doesn't care enough about its officers to equip them with that kind of stuff (You must remember, this is the same employer that has only given ONE pay raise to its officers in the last 8 years).
Another thing, if that officer went in a dorm, and performed a "gang-style" beat-down on ANY inmate, the other inmates would kill every officer that came in the dorm trying to claim the stupid officer that tried. There are around 1680 inmates to - At The Most - around 50 officers in general population (On the night shifts, there are only around 25 officers there), and they simply would not allow an officer to beat up an inmate. That is absurd.
Also, the "gang-style" beat-downs you hear about are just that; They are, literally, GANG beatings... From what I have hear is going on, one particular gang in the prison is cleaning its house of its undesirables...
Oldnewswoman, you are most likely correct; We probably will never hear about what happened there, and, to be honest, it makes even the officers sick, that this crap gets covered up. The state wants everyone to think that life is peaceful and happy inside the walls, when, in reality, there is more gang warfare, and senseless violence than the public will ever know. The only news you ever hear is when an officer does something wrong, or an inmate escapes (which makes the officers look incompetent), or an inmate sues the state, because one rogue officer thinks his badge makes him superman. This news makes the public think that all officers are corrupt or not qualified to do the job, and makes everyone think of the officers as "baby-sitters", instead of actual Law Enforcement Officers. If the public really knew what happens daily, how many officers have to fight for their lives, just to try to keep a bunch of murderers, rapists, and thugs from killing each other (Or the officers), and how under-staffed and under-paid they are, MAYBE the officers would get treated with the respect they deserve, instead of having everyone think as OneGirlsOpinion does... If you don't believe me, ask any other law enforcement officer if they would go work at Hays... They think we are nuts to take on an un-winnable task...
I am no longer an officer (I got tired of fighting a battle that i couldn't win, un-armed, and for an employer that doesn't care for our safety or our sanity- as long as we don't let an inmate escape or die, and as long as we don't speak negatively about the GDC), so I can tell the truth, without fear of losing my job. I would tell you if the officers really did those things, but it just isn't true. Theses officers work alot of overtime, without receiving overtime pay, they work in horribly unsafe conditions daily, and are way under-staffed, but only ask that their company have their backs as much as they have each other's.
Sadly, it is not just inside the prison walls where this kind of garbage happens. LEOs every where are outnumbered and not allowed to take the necessary actions when dealing with violent criminals. Brass is too concerned with liability versus officer and public safety.
I mean, everyone at Hays is "innocent", right? No one did the crimes that put them there.
As for what they will find? Well that depends on if they actually look... because if they do, I would bet corruption is what they would find.
