The things that have happened to our nation in the past days, weeks and years have saddened us and others, and we wonder why they happened. When we watched those sweet little innocent faces being shown on TV, it broke our hearts. It broke for them and for their families who will never have the honor and privilege to see them grow up.

We don’t pretend to have all the answers to all of life’s tough questions, but new laws and regulations are not the answer.

We as a nation have failed miserably to follow what our great nation was founded on. In order to right the wrongs that we have committed, we need to return to the things that our great nation was founded upon. IN GOD WE TRUST!

2 Chronicles 7:14 says: “If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

What better time to humble ourselves than now when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

What are we waiting on friends, IT IS TIME — IT IS PAST TIME to turn to God and ask Him to bless our nation and heal us.

Steve and Donna,

I first read your letter the day it was published but wanted to take a few days before I responded.

You see I have 3 grandchildren all aged 5 and was and very emotional about the mass murder of elementary school kids in Newtown.

Almost immediately after this tragedy occurred the usual suspects came forward to offer their two cents.

Ex Governor Mike Huckabee was first with the insane rationale that somehow because a mentally ill person committed a vile murder somehow that lack of GOD was the reason it happened.

He was followed by the odious Bryan Fisher of the American Family Association and a score of other prominent right wing religious nutjobs.

Personally I consider the mere notion that somehow we brought this on ourselves because in America we have separation of Church and State is vile and insane.

Why would Christians worship a god that sanctions murder because state sponsored prayer is forbidden?

What type of malignant God would allow children to be shot repeatedly with high powered weapons?

If God a god existed that was actually Omnipotent then he/she could have prevented Newtown and chose not to do so.

Christians have complete freedom to worship or not in America. What is so offensive about that would offend God that children would be used as sacrifices?

Your suggestion that we in essence made god mad so he allowed Newtown to happen and would have intervened if only we "Prayed More" is offensive and vile.

The reactions from the religious right and the NRA are exactly the same......More Gawd........More Guns.

Both lead to death and lunacy.

Shame....Shame....Shame...

Our great nation was not founded on the premise that the Bible is the Word of God or that Christianity is the only path to eternal life. In fact our forefathers were intelligent enough to create a separation of church and state so each citizen can believe and worship as they choose.

Furthermore, if you believe the Bible is the Holy word of God, then you must believe that adulterers should face the death penalty. (Leviticus Chapter 20 verse 10)

Also, you must believe that women must be silent in church and not teach Sunday school or hold any position of authority. (I Timothy Chapter 2 verses 11&12.

Too many preachers and believers ignore the passages they don't like in the Bible and claim those they do like to be the Holy Word of God. Good luck with that approach.

Actually 'In God We Trust' was made the national motto over 150 after our nation was founded. Our founders chose 'E Pluribus Unum', something much more representative of the ideas our nation was founded on.

Technically, with the change of the motto, and the fact that America is one of the most religious nations in the world, you could argue that God is actually the problem.

That's not my stance of course, but it'd be an easy argument to make.
