My husband and I direct the ministry of the “evening food pantry” located in the Garden Lakes Baptist Church building at 2200 Redmond Circle NW., Rome. From the very beginning (April 2007) we have just been absolutely amazed at the generosity of how many citizens in this county really, really care about those around us who are going through such tough times, and when their money runs out … well, that’s when (if they come) we stand ready to help them feed their family.

So much generosity on the part of individuals, clubs, churches, and businesses, on whom the food pantry depends to make possible this food pantry ministry.

One purpose of this letter is to say a big thank you to each and every one, and that includes a dear lady who came by recently with about 10 bags of groceries. She told volunteers that she had been cleaning out her dad’s pantry and also her own, and wanted us to have the food. She didn’t leave her name, but perhaps she reads this newspaper and will see this note. We are so very appreciative of every single item given to help, and without this community’s help, this would not be available for us to help our friends, neighbors and lots of total strangers with food.

We work with more than 100 “super volunteers” who give of their time and energy to make this all come together, serving (since beginning) 20,725 families, with a total of 72,423 persons.

Thanks to all who help in any way, and thank you Rome News-Tribune for your help. All the food drives over the past years have been very helpful and so appreciated!
