On Saturday the band will host a CD release party for “Brand New Stranger.”
Muletide Perkins Trio is comprised of local musicians may be known in some parts by their eclectic stage names. Bryan Mullins (Muletide Perkins) on guitar and vocals, Matt McGinnis (Hardup McGizzle) on bass and vocals and Graham Duke (Old Burnt Turn Slick) on drums and vocals.
Duke is also the writer, guitarist, and vocalist for the minimalist psych folk duo Graham & Vann.
The band’s first album, 2010’s “Slop Right Out The Trough,” earned the trio a small but loyal fan base in North Georgia and surrounding areas. Songs from the album received radio play on college stations in Athens, Atlanta, and Chattanooga.
“I’m very thankful to be able to make music with two of my best friends,” Mullins said. “We are all very interested in multiple styles of music as long as it is sincere, original, and contains that raw energy that can sometimes get lost in mass production.
“We are collectively influenced by early punk rock, deep cut classic rock, raw blues, old school hip hop, classic country, and even jazz,” he added. “We like to call it slop rock, but really it’s just a bunch of notes and beats and lyrics. If we had a cafeteria there would be no divider plates.”
The new album contains 13 new, original tracks. Cover art for the CD was contributed by retired art teacher, Chris Hodges.
“He is one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever been fortunate to know,” Mullins said. “I took him an early mix of the CD and said that whatever works for him will work for us. We are extremely excited and grateful for the art that he produced for the CD.”
Mullins said the new album is not the band’s attempt to go mainstream. Producing hits is not their objective.
“We’re not trying to be some mainstream hit kind of band,” he said. “We just love playing our songs for people who are interested and we love playing with other bands that we love. We’re basically looking to rip the place and throw down with our good buds.”
The new album, as well as the band’s earlier work and other band merchandise, will be available at the release party which takes place Saturday at 8 p.m. on the third floor of Mellow Mushroom on Broad Street. There will be a $5 cover. The band will perform tracks from the new album. Also performing will be My Ninja and Jerry on the Moon.

Also, Graham and Vann is the best obscure rock folk ever.
