Owning a 13-point lead in the second half, the Georgia Highlands women’s team seemed primed to extend their perfect conference record on Saturday.

Darton College’s Michelle Mitchell decided to change the script.

Mitchell, an All-American, scored a game-high 28 points and was the catalyst during the Lady Cavaliers’ 17-2 run in the second half that reversed the game’s momentum and helped Darton beat GHC, 69-64.

She also hit free throws down the stretch to help Darton protect the lead and hand GHC its first conference loss.

Mitchell finished 12 of 14 at the free throw line.

GHC (15-2, 8-1) owned a 26-25 lead at the half, and extended the advantage to 52-39 in the second half before Darton rallied.

The Lady Chargers were led by Gabrielle Kendall with 14 points.

Shan’Taja Latimore added 13, Manon Cherubini had 12 and Shakiera McCleandon 10.

The Lady Chargers are home again today, facing Chattahoochee Tech at 2 p.m.
