An Alabama man was arrested Tuesday after he attempted to pass a fraudulent check at a local bank, according to Floyd County Jail and Rome police reports.

According to the reports:

Shane Fay Hudgins, 25, of 150 County Road 706, Gaylesville, Ala., attempted to cash a check made out to him in the amount of $2,000 at the United Community Bank branch at 307 E. Second Ave. on Tuesday.

The teller called the person whose name was on the account the check was from and was alerted that it was a stolen check.

Hudgins had forged the signature of the account-holder and was attempting to pass it off as genuine.

He was charged with felony first-degree forgery.
