Mrs. Damon Niles Knauss
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chesley Wade Monk II of Rome. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ridley Monk of Sylvester.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar Knauss of Macungie, Pa.
Dr. Joel P. Snider of Rome performed the double ring ceremony. A two hundred-year-old oak tree and a beautifully sculpted rock wall built in honor of the bride’s grandparents were the setting of the wedding. A garden arbor served as the altar. Ivory garden roses cascaded from the arbor which was anchored with two large ferns. Bales of roses and tulle bows adorned the aisle chairs. A large arrangement of ivory roses and hydrangea were centered on the wall with large green ferns on each end. The processional song, “Canon in D,” played by a string trio followed the singing of “How Beautiful” sung by soloist Marcy McCarty of Albany. The bride entered to a trio instrumental of “Bridal Chorus.” The couple knelt in prayer to the singing of “The Lord’s Prayer”. The recessional included “Wedding March.”
Ashley Monk of Smyrna, sister-in-law of the bride, was the matron of honor. She wore a knee-length navy blue dress and carried a bouquet of ivory garden roses and fern tied with ivory ribbon.
Lt. William Monk, brother of the bride, served as best man. He wore his Navy dress uniform while the groom wore his Army dress uniform . Thompson and Jonathan Monk, nephews of the bride, served as ring bearers. The colors in their outfits were coordinated with the colors of the attendants.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a tulle lace gown with a chapel length A-line skirt and scalloped hem. The entire gown was adorned by lace and had an open back with cap laced sleeves. The bride wore a mantilla style veil with wide lace stitched around the edge of her veil. The bride’s jewelry consisted of a sapphire and diamond ring given to her by her father and matching diamond and sapphire earrings and necklace borrowed from her aunt. She also carried a bouquet of ivory garden roses and fern tied with ivory ribbon.
The mother of the bride wore a knee length mink brown shimmer cap sleeve empire sheath dress. The mother of the groom wore a knee length lavender dress with matching bolero jacket.
Following the ceremony, a seated luncheon was held at the family farm. The three tiered wedding cake sitting atop a silver cake stand was a vanilla cake iced with vanilla buttercream icing topped with fresh ivory garden roses. The groom’s cake was chocolate with chocolate icing topped with a replica of the groom’s 82nd Airborne Division insignia.
The evening before the wedding, a dinner was held at the home of Tracy and David Monk in Tifton. Other pre-nuptial parties included a bridal brunch and shower in Rome hosted by Marilyn Canova, Vicki Gee, Joan Goss, Diane Lumpkin, Mary Rolan and Cherry Snider; a bridal luncheon in Southern Pines hosted by Annie Woodruff and Frances Crickmore; a bachelorette weekend in Washington D.C.,hosted by Jessica Robertson. A post wedding celebration was held in Rome hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brewster, Mr. and Mrs. William Byington, Dr. and Mrs. Dwayne Collier, Dr. and Mrs. Paul Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Wright Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steinbruegge, Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Stuenkel, and Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Thomas at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brewster.
After their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, the couple resides in Southern Pines, N.C.
