Rome’s First Baptist Church is having its youth’s fifth annual barbecue sale with all proceeds benefiting camp and mission trips.
The church is selling Boston butts for $25 that will easily feed a family of four and racks of ribs for $15 that could feed two people.
“We’ve grown every year and cook more each year” John Uldrick the church’s youth minister said. “We’ve printed 250 tickets for ribs and 150 for Boston butts and hope to sell all of them.”
Tickets will be presold and the sale ends this Sunday. The ribs and Boston butts will be cooked Feb. 1-2 and they’ll be available for pick-up for all who have a ticket from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, Feb. 2. The Super Bowl is Feb. 3.
“I’ve done a lot of fundraising and the youth seem a little more driven in selling the tickets because they can earn close to $300 which helps pay for their trips. It makes it a little more affordable.” He says.
Uldrick says the barbecue is also really good but there is a more compelling reason to make the decision in purchasing Super Bowl food from First Baptist.
“People who purchase a ticket are helping teenagers who have a sense of purpose who not only want to grow in their faith but want to be the hands of Christ in some areas they couldn’t reach without the help of the public.”
