Facing Centre College in a Southern Athletic Association road game, the Lady Vikings saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a 78-54 loss.
The Berry men also suffered a loss, falling to Centre, 71-47.
The loss dropped Berry’s women to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Centre improved to 7-9, 5-1.
“We faced a veteran Centre team, which was clicking on all cylinders,” said Berry head coach Stephanie Dunn.
“We simply did not capitalize on our opportunities today. Yet I still feel good about the progress of this team; we need to get back to work and focus on our next game.
Chanlir Segarra led Berry with 18 points, five assists and five rebounds. She was 6-of-17 from the field and made four 3-pointers.
Megan Walsh came off the bench to score 11 points and grab eight rebounds for the Lady Vikes.
Berry took an early 9-5 lead in the first half, after Segarra nailed a 3-pointer with 16:35 on the clock. Centre, however, then heated up from the outside. They shot 8-of-14 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes and led 47-28 at halftime.
Segarra made a basket with 15:14 left to cut the deficit to 53-39, but the Lady Vikings got no closer in the second half.
Centre’s sharpshooting continued as they shot 48 percent (29-of-61) from the floor, including 53 percent (10-of-19) from long range for the game. Berry was 20-of-66 from the field (30 percent) and made just 4 of 27 attempts from behind the three-point line.
Paige Baechle scored a game-high 27 points for Centre. She was 11-of-24 shooting and pulled down 14 rebounds.
The Lady Vikings travel to Birmingham-Southern next Friday night.
The Berry men also suffered a loss on Sunday
In the men’s game, freshman Jake Wright recorded a game-high 14 points for the visitors, but the Vikings offense struggled to get in sync.
Wright was 7-of-9 from the field and his point total was a career high.
“For the second straight game, Jake Wright was a bright spot for us,” said Berry head coach Jeff Haarlow. “Give Centre credit; they are playing well right now and with confidence. We need to learn from this game and look forward.”
Jonathan Abram scored 10 points and reached double-digits for the 14th time this year.
Berry dropped to 4-13, 1-5. Centre, which led from start to finish, improved to 12-3, 5-1.
Centre shot 43 percent from the field to Berry’s 36 percent. The Colonels had 63 shots to 45 for Berry.
Centre led 29-20 at halftime. Berry forced 10 turnovers, but committed 19 miscues. Centre had the edge in rebounds, 38-33. Berry’s 47 points was a season low.
For Centre, 12 of the 14 players on the roster reached the scoring column. Byron Ellis and Josh Karsner paced the Colonels with 11 points apiece.
The Vikings travel to Birmingham-Southern next Friday night.
