A Silver Creek man arrested following a car chase on Chulio Road told the arresting officer that he was distracted from driving because he was eating tacos, according to a Rome city police report.

According to the report:

Codee Leshane North, 23, of 1099 Abrams Road, swerved his white Nissan Altima in front of a Floyd County police patrol car Monday around 10:20 p.m. on U.S. 411 before changing lanes and cutting off a Rome city police car that had been following the county officer.

The city officer followed North’s car after it turned onto Chulio Road. After North drove over the center line multiple times, the city officer attempted to pull him over.

North kept driving before stopping and running into the woods. The city officer chased North until the officer realized he had dropped something from his belt.

North was later caught by a county officer on Boyd Valley Road. The city officer arrived on the scene shortly after and arrested North.

When asked about why he was driving recklessly, North said he was reaching for tacos he had bought at Taco Bell when he swerved on U.S. 411, and was eating the tacos when he was crossing the center line on Chulio Road.

North also told the officer that he kept driving and then ran because he had a suspended license. He was charged with fleeing/attempting to elude police, improper lane change and reckless driving.
