Barbara Raybon was recently recognized by the Technical College System of Georgia for her effective use of volunteers in adult education. Raybon coordinates the volunteer literacy program at the Language and Literacy Center, a collaborative effort of Georgia Northwestern Technical College and the Rome Floyd County Library.

Beverly Smith, Assistant Commissioner with the Office of Adult Education at the Technical College System of Georgia, presented Raybon with a plaque in honor of her dedication to the Language and Literacy Center and adult education in her community.

The Language and Literacy Center is located on the second floor of the Rome Floyd County Library. The program provides three levels of English as a Second Language classroom instruction. Day and evening classes are available based on regular registration. The Center also offers one on one tutoring to assist adults in improving their reading skills during the library’s normal hours of operation. All services are offered free of charge.
