Floyd County police arrested a Rome man Saturday and charged him in connection with seven different incidents where propane tanks were stolen from retailers, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the reports:

Sean Dwight Collins, 23, of 330 First St., Rome, was charged with seven counts each of misdemeanor theft by taking and misdemeanor criminal trespass after he was accused of taking a total of 74 propane tanks between Aug. 3 and Nov. 29, 2012.

The reports state that Collins cut the locks off the outside storage containers at six different stores in Floyd County and took the tanks, each time at a value of less than $1,500.

Among the worst-hit stores during the spree was Mr. C’s, at 6280 Martha Berry Highway, which Collins allegedly stole from on two separate occasions for a total of 29 tanks, and the Rock Store, at 3304 Kingston Highway, which had 16 tanks taken from their storage on Aug. 3.

Collins remained in jail Saturday night on $9,100 bond for the theft by taking charges and no bond on the criminal trespassing charges. He is also being held on a probation violation.
